Job Overview

Under direct supervision, the Facilities Technician supports day-to-day maintenance of building systems, grounds, and support equipment while assisting with Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) and hazardous waste activities. This role contributes to safe, compliant facility operations and supports sustainability and safety initiatives across the site

 

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties

Facilities Maintenance & Compliance (Approximately 75%)

  • Performs basic repair for building systems, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, structural and cosmetic.
  • Performs basic building and grounds maintenance.
  • Assist with ice and snow removal on walkways to ensure safety standards.
  • Interact with cleaning company to assure custodial needs are met.
  • Support HVAC system operation and basic upkeep.
  • Provide backup coverage for Custodial Assistant job duties.
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset by helping streamline work processes and improve service response times.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

EH&S / EGH&S Support (Approximately 25%)

 

  • Assist with environmental, health, and safety programs to support OSHA, environmental, and insurance compliance.
  • Support hazardous waste activities, including waste characterization, inspections of satellite accumulation areas, and proper handling practices.
  • Help prepare, implement, and support EH&S training programs such as Hazard Communication, Lockout/Tagout, Emergency Procedures, PPE, and related safety topics.
  • Assist with job safety analyses (JSA) by identifying potential hazards and recommending corrective actions.
  • Support reporting of sustainability and safety performance metrics (KPIs) to site and corporate stakeholders

 

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Hazardous Waste Coordinator Certification (or ability to maintain certification).
  • A minimum of two years’ hands on maintenance experience with electrical skills.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of tools, materials, methods and practices in general building maintenance.  Uses tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical testing devices. 
  • Ability to recognize maintenance or safety issues and take initiative to report or correct them.
  • Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required.

  • A general knowledge of custodial functions including (but not limited to) electrical, carpentry, custodial, etc.

Environmental/Safety/Physical Work Conditions

  • Ensures environmental consciousness and safe practices are exhibited in decisions
  • Use of computer and telephone equipment and other related office accessories/devices to complete assignments
  • May work extended hours during peak business cycles
  • Physical requirements such as lifting specific weights, standing, walking, and working with tools

 

This position will be on first shift with the work hours of 7am-4pm.

Salary range of $23-30/hr depending on relevant, recent experience.
