Job Purpose:
We are seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in plastic part design and injection molding. This role is critical to the development and industrialization of complex plastic components for our primary packaging and medical devices. The ideal candidate will bring at least 7 years of experience in plastic product development and will thrive in a cross-functional environment with a team of project managers, product line managers, industrialization engineers, and quality.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the design and development of plastic components from concept through production, focusing on injection-molded parts
  • Lead testing, measuring and research for functionality and capability of new product designs
  • Review Market and/or User Requirement Specification document to ensure all product requirements are understood
  • Create and validate 3D CAD models using tools like SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent
  • Define tolerances, material specifications, and design for manufacturability (DFM) in collaboration with tooling and manufacturing teams
  • Generate designs and documentation of fixtures, tools and processes to support product development
  • Develop bills of materials, assembly drawings, designs and component drawings ideally using Creo and SolidWorks 3D CAD software and PDM software
  • Work closely with industrialization engineers, molders, toolmakers, and suppliers to ensure part quality and performance
  • Support tooling development, mold trials, and first article inspections (FAIs) in clean rooms
  • Contribute to risk analysis (e.g., FMEA), design reviews, and product documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including project managers, product line managers, industrialization engineers, and quality
  • Participate in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Transparently and proactively communicate progress of all assigned tasks to the relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure project timelines are met and KPI’s are reached

 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to write technical reports and operations manuals
  • Ability to perform failure analysis

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in design engineering, with a focus on injection-molded plastic parts
  • knowledge of thermoplastic elastomer and  plastics, and Ideally silicone polymers
  • Knowledge of injection molding and ideally blow molding and mold making
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
  • Familiarity with ISO/ASME GD&T standards and DFM/DFMEA methodologies
  • Ideally, experience working in medical device
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Employee is required to sit, stand, walk, & move around the facilities include warehouse/lab/cleanroom/test area
  • Must be able to use a variety of tools & equipment to complete tasks
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Occasional travel that may include overnight stays
