Job Overview
The Manager of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) will lead and manage all aspects of EHS compliance and initiatives across three Northern NJ sites. This role is critical in ensuring a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment in accordance with FDA, TUV, and OSHA regulations. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with strong communication and organizational skills, capable of fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. Maintains all Sustainability, Health and Safety materials and training programs based on federal legislation, ISO 14001 and corporate expectations.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Safety Leadership & Culture
- Champion a strong safety culture across all three sites.
- Establish and lead a cross-functional Safety Committee that meets monthly and participates in audits, accident investigations, and safety initiatives.
- Responsible for leading EH&S incident investigations, identifying root causes, and executing sustainable corrective actions.
- Develop and implement site-specific emergency evacuation plans and conduct regular drills.
- Develops and executes a plan to reduce worker injury and lost time rates through active near miss reporting, continuous improvement implementation and EHS metrics that drive year-over-year improvement.
- Responsible for emergency planning and takes leadership role in EH&S emergency situations. Ensures that adequate evacuation and response arrangements are in place for fire, accidents and all other emergency situations.
- Represents the company on EH&S affairs with relevant external parties ensuring adequate response to all regulatory and legal issues.
- Partner closely with other Getinge EH&S personnel to ensure best practice sharing and implementation.
- Leads a proactive business continuity planning process to proactively improve EH&S issues while having an industry leading process should issues arise.
Training & Compliance
- Lead Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) adherence and training programs.
- Ensure PPE matrix is established, maintained, and audited regularly; oversee PPE training and compliance.
- Manage OSHA training records and ensure timely completion of required training modules, along with assessing the readiness for VPP certification
- Conduct site safety training for new hires and ongoing employee education on a routine basis.
- Establishes and tracks metrics for assessing EH&S effectiveness in the organization, including the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), the OSHA Lost Worktime Case Rate (LWR) and ISO 14001 environmental performance goals.
Regulatory Compliance & Reporting
- Serve as the OSHA lead for all three sites, including incident reporting, investigation, and compliance assessments and continuous improvement.
- Lead facility inspection programs to ensure OSHA compliance and readiness.
- Act as the primary liaison for Worker’s Compensation claims and investigations.
- Oversee first aid response protocols and ensure adequate supplies and training.
- Responsible for managing change in the ongoing development and implementation of the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015).
- Establishes and tracks metrics for assessing EH&S effectiveness in the organization, including the OSHA Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), the OSHA Lost Worktime Case Rate (LWR) and ISO 14001 environmental performance goals.
Program Management
- Manage the forklift and powered industrial vehicle safety program, including training and certification.
- Oversee the chemical hygiene program, ensuring safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Manage the universal waste program in compliance with environmental regulations.
- Lead the material handling safety program and ensure ergonomic best practices are implemented and assessed regularly.
- Responsible for appropriate procedures, approvals, coordination and control of hazardous, regulated and solid wastes
Continuous Improvement
- Conduct ongoing assessments and implement ergonomic prevention initiatives.
- Monitor and audit safety programs for effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with site leadership to identify and mitigate risks proactively.
- Serve as EH&S subject matter expert for site leadership, through participation in site operational meetings and town halls.
- Manages regular strategic review of EH&S in the organization and provides appropriate objectives and programs to improve overall EH&S performance and to defend against future liabilities.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
- Must have working knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 9001, OSHA, FDA GMP’s requirements.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 5-7 years’ experience in EH&S in a manufacturing environment is required. 7-10 years’ experience supporting EH&S at a facility level is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, FDA, and TUV regulations.
- Proven experience in safety training, incident investigation, and regulatory reporting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Certification in OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and Forklift Safety preferred.

- Must have prior experience dealing with local Federal and State Authorities reporting.
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills and be able to interact with all levels of the organization.
- Must demonstrate the ability to take initiative and work independently to drive results.
- Applied experience in the field of ergonomics and pro-active repetitive stress injury prevention is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, strategic thinking/planning, communication, and collaboration skills are essential.

Environmental/Safety/Physical Work Conditions
- Ensures environmental consciousness and safe practices are exhibited in decisions
- Use of computer and telephone equipment and other related office accessories/devices to complete assignments
- May work extended hours during peak business cycles
- Typical office environment.
- Travel between New Jersey sites (Wayne, Mahwah, Fairfield).
Salary range: $125-135k plus bonus targeted at 15% (depending on overall company performance)
