Job Overview
The Principal Product Manager & Team Lead is a senior strategic leader within the Cardiovascular Surgery (CVS) business, responsible for high-level ownership of a broad and complex product portfolio. This role drives portfolio strategy, lifecycle performance, upstream marketing, voice of the customer interface, and cross-functional execution while ensuring alignment with business growth objectives and financial commitments.
In addition to portfolio leadership, this position serves as the Team Lead for the Wayne Cardiovascular Surgery Product Management team and may directly manage Product Managers. The role provides mentorship, establishes operational rigor, and ensures excellence in product management execution within a highly regulated medical device environment.
The individual must possess extensive medical device product management experience in highly regulated environments and demonstrated clinical marketing expertise.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties
Portfolio Leadership & Ownership
- Hold high-level responsibility for a broad and strategically significant Cardiovascular Surgery product portfolio.
- May directly manage a defined portfolio and/or individual Product Managers.
- Drive full product lifecycle management from concept through commercialization and post-launch optimization.
- Ensure portfolio alignment with strategic priorities and financial targets.
- Optimize portfolio mix based on growth, profitability, clinical relevance, and competitive dynamics.
Team Leadership – Wayne CVS Product Management
- Serve as Leader for the Wayne Cardiovascular Surgery Product Management and PA Marketing/Training team.
- Provide mentorship and coaching locally and across ACT product management teams.
- Establish performance expectations and foster accountability.
- May directly supervise and manage Product Managers.
Strategic Development & Execution
- Contribute to business strategy development and translate strategic objectives into actionable portfolio roadmaps.
- Lead multi-year product planning aligned with innovation pipelines and commercial growth objectives.
- Identify new market opportunities and unmet clinical needs.
- Support Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Long-Range Plan (LRP) development.
High-Level Project Management Leadership
- Provide oversight of major product management initiatives.
- Lead governance for complex, high-impact programs including launches and lifecycle initiatives.
- Manage risks, dependencies, and milestone adherence.
CAPEX & Financial Accountability
- Develop and support robust business cases for capital investments (CAPEX).
- Track product and portfolio performance relative to approved CAPEX requests post-launch.
- Monitor revenue, margin, ROI, and forecast performance.
- Implement corrective strategies when performance deviates from projections.
Market Analytics & Clinical Marketing Leadership
- Direct customer interface to understand customer experience and key requirements; resulting in strong messaging and customer strategy.
- Lead market analytics initiatives across the portfolio.
- Establish frameworks for competitive intelligence, pricing strategy, and market share analysis.
- Leverage clinical marketing expertise to translate clinical evidence into compelling value propositions that drive the product management funnel activities.
- Drive data-informed decision-making that enhances customer centricity.
Governance & Process Ownership
- Own creation and updates of all local product management procedures and support ACT standards.
- Establish best practices for lifecycle management and launch excellence.
- Ensure compliance with global regulatory and quality system requirements.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Life Sciences, or related field required.
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- 10+ years of progressive medical device product management experience
- Extensive experience in highly regulated environments (FDA, EU MDR, global regulatory frameworks).
- Clinical marketing experience required, including surgeon engagement and clinical data translation.
- Demonstrated success managing complex medical device portfolios.
- Prior people leadership or team lead experience preferred.

Targeted salary range: $210,000- $245,000, depending upon experience and location +30% bonus target
